Living Coastal Part 2

Many of the summer houses by the local beaches were not insulated as they were lived in only in the summer.  Families from the Hartford area owned many of the beach cottages and before air conditioning the families left their hot city homes, came to their beach houses for the summer and threw open their windows to let the cool sea breezes blow in.  The houses were not fancy on the inside but were infused with a coastal feel from whitewashing and beadboard to comfortable overstuffed sofas and chairs meant for comfort.  Iron beds with quilts served ups some wonderful rooms for relaxing and snoozing with the wind blowing through the open windows.  These coastal summer cottages would later be insulated and made into beautiful year round home with plenty of New England beach charm.
